THIS WEEK'S SCOUT REPORT

V'S SCOUT REPORT
FROM THE FIELD
This week actually has a shape to it, which is rarer than a squirrel sitting still. We’ve got Mother’s Day at the gardens Sunday morning, and Fringe opening Tuesday night—35 years in, and it’s still the only thing on the Orlando calendar that hasn't lost its soul to a marketing department. Thursday brings a free Nic Cage flick in Central Park, followed by Haitian Flag Day at Wall Street the next Sunday. Three of these four spots want me and the pack right there with you; the other requires you to leave us guarding the couch and go anyway. Here’s the real talk on how to run it without chasing your own tail.

V's Feature Pick
🎭 35TH ANNUAL ORLANDO FRINGE — NO GLITCHES, JUST ART

When: Opens Tuesday, May 12, 7 PM | Runs May 12–25
Where: Loch Haven Park + Shakespeare Center
Cost: Outdoor Stage FREE | $10 button | Shows $0–$15
Thirty-five years. That’s not just luck; it’s an institution that figured out its scent early and didn’t flinch when something shinier came along. 1,000+ performances from four countries—the full chaos is the point.
The Insider Math: The outdoor lawn at Loch Haven is our territory—leashed four-leggers like me are 100% welcome to soak up the vibes for free. Visual Fringe and Kids Fringe? Also free. You can spend an entire afternoon here without dropping a dime past your $10 button. If you’re buying tickets, browse now; the good stuff sells out while you're still thinking about it. Weekday mornings are your quiet window. Saturday afternoons? Absolute madness. If you get confused, don't just howl at the moon—call the humans at the box office: 407-436-7800.

THIS WEEK'S INSIDER TIP
THE TEMPORAL ARC — DON’T FIGHT THE FLOW
Tonight & Tomorrow (May 7–8):
Thu May 7 — TPD Night Market, 6 PM. Local makers, food trucks. I’ll be there sniffing out the artisans. (V-approved ✅)
Fri May 8 — Art After Dark or Casselberry Food Trucks. I’m tracking the scent on the music for Casselberry, but the city is playing hard to get. Either way, bring the leash. (V-approved ✅)
Mother's Day Weekend (May 9–10):
Sat May 9 — Winter Park Farmers' Market, 8 AM. Arrive before 8:30 or accept the consequences of your life choices. (V-approved ✅)
Sun May 10 — Maitland at Lake Lily (V-approved ✅) then Leu Gardens for Mom. Free for moms, 50 acres of "no noise." No paws on the pavement here—consistent policy, don't make it weird. (No paws ❌)
Fringe Opening Week (May 12–17):
Mon May 11 — Audubon Park Community Market, 5–8 PM. Pet vendors here have "the good stuff" (the treats I'd sell my soul for). (V-approved ✅)
Tue May 12 — Fringe Ribbon Cutting, 7 PM. The lawn is our turf. Go. (V-approved ✅)
Thu May 14 — Popcorn Flicks: National Treasure, 8 PM. Bring a blanket and some ear scratches for me. (V-approved ✅)
Sat May 16 — Saturday Sounds Finale, Apopka, 5 PM. Dave Matthews Tribute. No dogs allowed—strictly enforced, even for us locals. (No paws ❌)
Sun May 17 — Haitian Flag Day, 1 PM. RSVP now or get stuck in the line. Leave me to guard the perimeter at home for this one. (No paws ❌)
THIS WEEK'S EVENTS
V-APPROVED PICKS
🇭🇹 SAK PASÉ — THE REAL DOWNTOWN
When: Sat May 9–May 25
Where: Sun May 17, 1 PM | Wall Street Plaza
Cost: FREE before 3 PM with RSVP
The story started in 1803, and it’s worth knowing the history before you show up to the party.
Organized by the community it's celebrating—the only version of "culture" that actually works. Kompa, Soca, and real Haitian food.
Capacity is a real thing here, not marketing fluff. Wear red and blue.
Arrive early. Leave the pack at home and go anyway.
🌺 THE ANTI-BRUNCH PLAN
When: Sun May 10, 9 AM–5 PM
Where: Leu Gardens
Cost: FREE for moms | $15 adults
Fifty acres and giant metal origami sculptures. No reservations, no 90-minute wait for subpar eggs.
Just a slow morning in the dirt (the good kind).
Opens at 9 AM—get there before the crowds ruin the vibe.
No pets, they aren't kidding, so I’ll be sitting this one out.

National Treasure
🎬 LOGISTICS-APPROVED CINEMA
When: Thu May 14, 8 PM
Where: Central Park, Winter Park
Cost: Free
Winter Park and Enzian have the logistics figured out. Leashed four-leggers are welcome on the grass, which is exactly where I’ll be.
Arrive by 7:30 to plot your spot.
Weather-dependent: if the sky looks like it’s going to howl, call 407-629-1088 x230 before we load up the car.

🎶 THE SEASON FINALE
When: Sat May 16, 5–7 PM
Where: Apopka Amphitheater
Cost: FREE
A deliberate trip, not a detour, but worth the trek to find a spot where nobody’s elbow is in your snout. 1,360 seats plus room to breathe.
Bring your own snacks.
No pets permitted in the concert area—strictly enforced. Service animals only.
🐕 THE SNOUT-APPROVED MARKET CIRCUIT
The market circuit runs without interruption. Winter Park Farmers' Market (May 9 & 16, 8 AM)—park early or start walking from another zip code. Maitland at Lake Lily is the quieter, shadier play for when Lake Eola feels like a glitch in the simulation.
Audubon Park Community Market: Every Monday, 5–8 PM. This one has my official stamp of dog-friendly approval. The pet vendors carry "the good stuff"—and by that, I mean treats worth sitting and staying for. Still not on the tourist lists. Let's keep it that way.
FROM V'S FIELD NOTES

That’s your week. Hit reply if you find a Fringe show that hits different or if you end up at Wall Street in red and blue. I read every one of these between naps. If you find a secret spot where the treats are high-quality or the vibes are local, send the intel over.
